Verdicchio is considered to be one of Italy’s best white wine grape varieties. Its use has been documented in Le Marche region of central Italy since the 14th century. Since the 1700s the Bucci family has reigned over their estate in Le Marche, but despite the long family history, only under the current generation have their vineyards been raised to greatness. Ampelio (coming from ampelos, ancient Greek for vine) has transformed this estate into one of Italy’s most interesting white wine producers. Straw yellow with golden hints, this Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore is uncommonly rich, with very deep and lasting flavours (peach, plum, citrus fruits, almond and mineral whiffs), yet it remains remarkably crisp through a very long finish. It delivers all the freshness that is associated with this grape. Aged in large (50-75 hl) Slavonian oak casks. Best served at 12-14°C.
