Nerello Mascalese is a dark-skinned grape variety that grows on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicilia. The variety takes its name from the Mascali plain, between Mount Etna and the coast, where it is thought to have originated. Nerello Mascalese wines have had a rapid upsurge in popularity in the last decade. Ruby color with garnet hints. Ethereal scent with ripe red fruit, black pepper, leather, tobacco and excellent mineral flavors. Dry, full, persistent with solid tannins yet to be fully integrated.
