Verdicchio is considered as being one of Italy's best white-wine grape varieties. Its use has been documented in Le Marche region of central Italy since the 14th century.
The magnificent Tenuta di Tavignano estate is on the hills that dominate the valleys of the Esino and Musone rivers. The owners started to convert their estate to quality viticulture in the early 1990's. From then they have slowly developed their 30 ha of vineyards to be an exemplary source for local varieties, Verdicchio being their focus and the majority of their production. Yields are controlled and all harvest is by hand. The estate is now in the conversion phase to be certified organic.
The remarkable Misco wine is named after the ancient Latin name of the Musone river that flows nearby, and is harvested from a single vineyard site with ideal altitude, exposure, soil composition, day/night temperature range and optimal northern ventilation.
Bright and shiny straw yellow, this Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore is uncommonly rich, with very deep and lasting flavours (white peach, grapefruit, acacia flowers, star anice, citrus and mineral whiffs), yet it remains remarkably crisp through a very long finish. It delivers all the freshness and complexity that are associated with this grape variety.
Matured in stainless steel vats, on the lees for 6 months.
